Natalie, Waterloo Co-op Student

My name is Natalie and I was a community engagement assistant at the Niagara Women’s Enterprise Center (NWEC) from September to December 2021 on a co-op contract. I created visual resources for different audiences, such as donors, board members, as well as the general public. I also assisted with planning and executing NWEC’s Giving Tuesday campaign with the creation of multiple graphics, which was a huge success! My big project of the term was creating sustainable fund initiative through an alumni engagement plan that went through many changes over the course of the term.

Working at NWEC has given me the great opportunity of building the skills I need for essential work such as leadership and communication. During my time here, I have learned a lot about the world of non-profit and opened my mind to the different sectors of jobs. The atmosphere at NWEC was a strong motivator for my work – I worked closely with Teagan who supported me each week and provided me with many opportunities to develop the skills I wanted to develop. Working at a non-profit, I am always surrounded by inspiring people, and I know that I am doing meaningful work.

Thank you to Sheryl Kennedy for her donation to fund my position through the Global Citizen Internship and the University of Waterloo for providing me with the opportunity to gain co-op experience by supporting non-profit organizations through the Global Citizen Internship. I am also very thankful of all the help and guidance the NWEC team has shown me.
